Community Chest
Queen’s Park has been awarded £17000 to be spent on community projects over the next 4 years. The government grant comes via the Community Development Foundation.
A key requirement of the scheme is that local people control how the money is spent by setting out priorities for Queen’s Park and deciding which projects should be funded. Several members of the community have come together to form a panel:
Katie Cowan Local resident who has lived in Queen’s Park for 9 years
Joe Gordon Local resident born in Queen’s Park and active in community affairs
Kimberley Durrance Local resident born in Queen’s Park and works at Queen’s Park Primary School
Julie Isaacs Local resident who ran the Lancefield Nursery for several years
Bassam Mahfouz Beethoven Centre manager and worked in Queen’s Park for 10 years
The priorities for Queen’s Park are:
1) Bringing the Community together
2) Support and advocacy for vulnerable people
3) Support for children and young people
Based on these priorities the panel are now accepting applications. Projects should address these priorities and be based in Queen’s Park. Any grants issued must be matched by volunteer, time, energy and resources. Grants are available from £250 to £2500.
More details on funding requirements and the application process can be found on the Community Development Foundation website.
